Study Design: Case report.
Objective: To report a case of a patient in his 40s who developed an Iliopsoas muscle hematoma after intradiscal electrothermal therapy (IDET).
Summary of the Literature Review: IDET is a non-invasive procedure that is known to be relatively safe.
Materials and Methods: A 41-year-old man was admitted with lower back pain. IDET L3-4 surgery was then performed. The day after the procedure, he complained of flank and hip pain in the emergency room. On computed tomography (CT), an acute hematoma of about 3.5 cm was observed in his right iliopsoas muscle.
Results: The iliopsoas hematoma was managed conservatively. A CT scan performed 4 weeks later revealed a decrease in the hematoma size.
Conclusions: Since there hemorrhage and hematoma formation can occur in the iliopsoas muscle after IDET, careful observation is required after this procedure.
